The Franciscan Church Tower: The Franciscan order was established
on the upper valley of Mures river after the Tartar invasion. By the end
of the 14th century on the place of the present Church in the Citadel
they had erected a monastery, the first building in stone certified by
documents in the town. In 1556, as a result of the spread of the
Reform, the order had to leave the town, and after the Diet in Turda,
the church became a Reformed Church . The Franciscans return only after
the Habsburg administration was established, in the middle 18th century,
when they built a new Baroque style church, and a new monastery in the
center of the town, between 1745 and 1747. The tower is the only piece
that survived demolition and systematization in 1971.
